The world is a natural product
Vast oceans, unchanging continents.
From afar on the surface not much to be seen.
Beneath the surface however, full of life.
Teeming with bugs, roots, fungi and millions of other organism,
creating a thin layer, ensuring our life on earth is possible.
It’s the layer we must protect and preserve.
That thin layer is like our subconsciousness.
It grinds and moves-, it shakes and falls silent.
It is alive and like all life, it is vulnerable.
We know…. We know how fragile Earth is.
Albeit our knowledge that life is not a game,
we continue disrespect and overexploitation.
However…….
There is a place where respect has been part of everyday life.
In Tuscany artisan have been producing leather since the Middle Ages.
Vegetable tanned leather, without heavy metals and chemicals.
Naturally gentle and persistent.
It's time to end the game with the earth and put the world on a pedestal.
Il mondo è un prodotto della natura.
Da lontano non c'è molto da scorgere in superficie.
Vasti oceani, continenti immutati.
Ma sotto la superficie e’ pieno di vita
E’ tutto un brulicare; Insetti, radici, funghi e milioni di altri organismi
che insieme creano lo strato sottile che rende possibile la nostra vita sulla terra.
È proprio questo strato sottile che dobbiamo proteggere.
Questo strato sottile è come il nostro subconscio.
Macina, si muove, freme e tace.
Vive e come tutta la vita è vulnerabile.
Lo sappiamo; sappiamo quanto sia fragile la Terra.
Nonostante sappiamo che sappiamo che la vita non è un gioco,
continuiamo a mancarle di rispetto e a sfruttarla all’ eccesso
Tuttavia…….
C'è un luogo in cui il rispetto ha sempre fatto parte della vita quotidiana.
In Toscana gli artigiani producono pelle fin dal medioevo.
Conciata al vegetale, senza metalli pesanti e prodotti chimici.
Pelle morbida naturale e persistente.
È ora di smettere di giocare con la terra e di mettere il mondo su un piedistallo.
Specification
A leather ball – a sports attribute – made out of a few spherical, preformed parts and therefore different from a traditional football out of flat pentagons and hexagons. The laser-cut, spherical continents are sun-colored and stitched onto the ball. Only vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany is used.
‘Il Mondo / the World’ was made at the René van den Berg Academy for the 9th edition of the ‘Craft the Leather’ event organized by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciate Al Vegetale and after the presentation at Lineapelle ’23 in Milano, received both the audience award and the professional jury award.
